HOC SIGNO

The present study is focused mainly on the dominating figure and personality of Emperor Constantine the Great, aiming at observing and defining the features and keynotes of the Christian vocational leader, originating and acting in crux signum. Such a Christian vocational leader is the result of both divine election and continuous formation. The author
thoroughly shows how Constantine’s personality as a leader was shaped by his mother’s Christian views and education, and then relies on Lactantius’ description of Constantine’s personality in order to achieve a convincing portrait of the Christian educational model for the vocational leader.
Keywords: Constantine the Great, imperial education, sign of redemption, educational ethos, Byzantine paideumic heritage, coroboration of educational ideals
