Abstract: The article critically examines the prevalence of cognitive vulnerabilities among acting students in Romania and investigates how these vulnerabilities are integrated, or not, into the actor training process within the vocational education and training (VET) system. This analysis advocates for a reevaluation of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and the specific competencies related to the art of acting, emphasizing the incorporation of effective tools for assessing and managing cognitive vulnerabilities and the necessity of fostering psychological wellbeing (PWB). A balanced PWB not only facilitates the development of nuanced and authentic interpretations but also contributes to the acquisition of skills essential for navigating the unique challenges of an acting career. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research involved 50 acting students from two specialized universities in Romania, combining qualitative analysis based on years of teaching experience in a specialized faculty with quantitative methods. Our findings indicate that student actors with rigid thinking patterns are more likely to experience stress, especially if they hold negative beliefs about themselves. In other words, inflexible attitudes can worsen emotional pain in this group. Given the presence of these vulnerabilities in the clinical profiles of students, it is recommended that scientifically validated therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), be incorporated into the actor training curriculum. These approaches aim to minimize psychological risks and support PWB, thereby fostering the development of balanced artistic careers. Such interventions not only enhance PWB but also improve the quality of artistic interpretations, offering new perspectives for VET in the performing arts.
