Relațiile de putere din Literatura Mondială și începutul traseului editorial al lui Mircea Cărtărescu în Spania: „eșecul” El sueño

Power Relations in World Literature and the Beginning of Mircea Cărtărescu’s publishing journey in Spain:
the “failure” of El sueño
Abstract: The image of the literary author is a collective work, more of the mediators than of the mediatized writer, and this is especially visible in the case of the translated authors. Among the mediators, translation editors are the most important heteroimaginary agents who tend to represent “the man and the work” – that is, to “paratranslate” them – in a systemic way, according to their own position in the literary system and the amount of symbolic capital owned by their literature within World Literature. The peritext of the volume El sueño (1993), the first Spanish translation of Mircea Cărtărescu’s work, contains the “traces” of the decisions and behavior in the literary field of Seix Barral Publishing House, with imagological consequences for the figure and product of the Romanian writer in Spain. The present article deals precisely with the analysis of these “traces”, which highlight the power relations in World Literature, especially those exercised through a bidirectional “triangular transfer”, carried out between a “central”, a “semi-peripheral” and a “peripheral” literary field. Also, the “El sueño moment”, a semi-failure at that time, is seen from the perspective of the evolution of the Cărtărescian “man and work” image in Spain, between 1993 and 2017.
