Mon semblable, mon fils

The following study observes the correspondence between the novelist Mateiu I. Caragiale and one of his closest friends, N.A. Boicescu. Among others, one of the aims of the author is to accurately establish who the real protoype of one of the most hypnotical characters from Mateiu I. Caragiale’s influential novel, Craii de Curtea Veche / The Old Courts’ Gallants – a moldy prostitute named Pena Corcoduşa. It is highly remarkable that Cosmin Ciotloş, although preceded in this issue by authoritative critics such as Alexandru Paleologu and Barbu Cioculescu, manages to find creditable arguments in his proposition for Hortense Paciuris as Pena Corcoduşa’s real protoype, also showing thus the working method of the writer’s imagination.
