Nominal Mythologies in the Fantastic of the “Call” Type
The idea of the study results from the adoption of the etymo-mythological point of view, based on the axiomatic belief regarding the transparency of the both common and proper names; more exactly, the thesis of this study applied on Mircea Eliade’s short stories states that each name of every character represents an etymological confirmation of the respective work’s idea The main examples subsequently analyzed are the theophanical machranthropos from “A Great Man”, Saint Dmitri from “A 14-Year Old Potography”, or the common narcissistic individual Iancu Gore, name whose power effects act as a boomerang. The conclusions of these analytical exercises prove the adequation between the secret or latent implications and derivations of the character’s name/surname and his/her nature and function within the narrative’s fictional universe, inherently validating the etymo-mythological approach of Eliade’s works.
