Forever Postmodern. Importing a Concept

This paper aims to present the last nearly four decades of Romanian poetry, taking into account the problematic positioning of Romanian culture in regard to Postmodernism and Postmodernity. Namely, the paper will present the diffusion of postmodern concepts in the Romanian poetry of the 1980s or lack thereof, insisting on the socio-political context that limited their implementation and naturalization. Furthermore, the paper will talk about Generation 2000 and its refusal to continue the legacy of the presumed postmodern poets of the 80s, whose works they regarded unfit to express the realities of postsocialist Romania. Lastly, this paper will draw on the parallels between the Romanian self proclaimed postmodern poets of the 80s and a new tendency in contemporary poetry, namely that belonging to the Generation post-2000 or the „post-millenial” promotion of poets, who are to be regarded as postmodern inasmuch as they finally belong to Postmodernity through globalization and the international cultural network. In this sense, the paper attempts to tell the three decades long story of how Postmodernism was imported, as seen in Romanian poetry.

Keywords: globalization, Romanian postmodernism, poetry, millennial poetry, 2000 generation.
