“Wide Sargasso Sea” – About Dislocation and Its Consequences
This paper analyzes Jean Rhys’ most notable work, “Wide Sargasso Sea”, by employing two critical perspectives and raising questions about how intertextuality and postcolonialism modeled the work. Starting as a general presentation and highlighting critical biographical data that are seminal to the genesis of the novel, the article handpicks themes from the ones approached in the novel, such as race, language, social status and explores the narrative devices used to render these themes.
Keywords: intertextuality, postcolonialism, Jean Rhys, “Wide Sargasso Sea”.
