Ovidiu Drimba’ s Encyclopaedic Vocation
The article presents, in the first part, some of Ovidiu Drimba’ biographical details from his literary beginnings, when he was a member of the Literary Circle from Sibiu, between 1943-1945, and fought side by side with his generation comrades for the Literay Circle’s Manifesto, which implied as main idea the autonomy of the aesthetic (following Lovinescu’s model). After the separation, Ovidiu Drimba became an important literary historian, with a prodigious academical career, being the author of many monumental historical books, such as The History of Culture and Civilization. The second part dwells on his latest book, The Genius of Spain, in wich the Romanian scholar presents the most important Spanish essayists of the so called “Generation of 1898”.
