The Conflicts Between The Popes And The Byzantine Empire In The 12th Century

The article wants to present the conflicts which occurred between the papacy and the Byzantine emperors in the 12.th century after the start of the crusading campaigns. The papacy was always attracted by submitting the Eastern Church and bringing it under its own rule. The tensioned relations between the papacy and the Byzantine Empire during the last two centuries, will find their inevitable ending into the 1204 conquering of Constantinople. The papacy has also a big guilt in the happenings of 1204. This conflict between two different mentalities and civilizations ended in the splitting of the two Christianities at 1204. The reduction of Constantinople which happened under the pope’s guidance breaks for good the Christianity. Not the schism from the 11th century but this act from 1204 was the decisive one in the breaking of the Christianity.
