Visitors to Monographic Campaigns
Abstract: This paper draws attention to a neglected phenomenon in the history of Gustian monographic research that held considerable importance. Field research was a novelty in Romania and Europe in the 1920s, sparking curiosity among intellectuals who began visiting research teams in the countryside. Dimitrie Gusti encouraged this unique form of tourism, as it promoted research beyond the academic boundaries of sociology. This increased his visibility and secured support for subsequent research plans. Moreover, the presence of foreign visitors effectively promoted the sociological monograph method internationally. The surprisingly strong impact of the Hungarian writer László Németh’s travel diary in Romania, which contributed to the spread of the Gustian method in Hungary, is particularly significant in this regard.
