The Italian Danubian Dress
Rezumat
Abstract: The current article results from an accidental finding of a folk costume which reveals overlooked links and echoes of the Italian Renaissance on the Danube’s shores. The shirt discovered and dubbed as Danubian could revive a forgotten visual appeal and initiate fresh prospects for research and collaboration in the realm of customary textiles in southern and southeastern Europe. The 1st person narration of this field research proves that not only should one give more attention to the antiquated and unusual tailoring/cutting pattern, but one should also focus on the methods used to create the decorations on the edges of the shirt. These techniques migrated towards Western Europe and developed into diverse forms of lace, but they have retained a distinct identity in Romania.
