Dr. Johann Schneider, Lutheran Evangelic Bishop of
Halle-Wittenberg,
An Exegete of the Metropolitan Andrei Şaguna’ Works
Distinguished personality in the contemporary Christian German world, Dr. Johann Schneider is not just an Evangelical Lutheran bishop native of Moşna Sibiului (born in Mediaş), but also an excellent exegete (interpreter) of Metropolitan Andrei Şaguna’s work.
This article aims to concisely illustrate, the way in which the current bishop of Halle- Wittenberg has influenced the study and use of Metropolitan Andrei Şaguna’s work (the ecclesiological, biblical and canonical principles underlying his struggle to reorganize the church). Therefore, this article focuses on an important German-Romanian relation through an outstanding personality of our time. It is also a tribute to an intellectual attached to the Şagunian values, who has supported many young theologians aspiring to university education. Moreover, it is just another way of assuring the distinguished friend of Romanian Orthodoxy in Halle-Wittenberg that he will always be part of the Transylvanian ecumenical spiritual heritage!
