Rezumat
Rural banks, catalyst of the economic and national spirit in Transylvania
The present article observes the role played on a large scale by rural banks as catalysts of the economic and national spirit in Transylvanian villages, starting with the early 18th century. The author justly observes that, while rural Transylvanian society was heading towards modernity, banks and bankers begin assuming the role played before by the church and the priests. Closely observing the historical evolutions of some rural banks such as Albina, Mielul, Poiana etc., the author shows how all these enterprises accelerated the formation of a modern economic and national spirit in rural Transylvania.
