Ideology and religion
The nar rowing of the scope of religion, and the predominance of scientific truth in modern society have been seen as the immediate consequences of the separation of knowledge from faith. In the analysis of this duality, religion was supplemented by ideology. In some writings, these two phenomena were perceived as being closely connected: either as aspects belonging to common sense (with nothing to set them apart), or ideology was seen as the successor of religion in the order of faith; other papers reject any relationship between the two. Reg ardless of the manner in which the relationship between the two phenomena was envisaged, it is essential to remember that they cannot be thought of separately. For the modern man, who is ideologically cultivated, knowledge is the new divinity from which he hopes to receive happiness, just as he used to believe (and still believes) that God was going to help him.
