Culture and education in the knowledge-based society
The relationship between the concept of information society and the one of knowledge-based society, the reciprocal transfer of benefits from one to the other, are factors that generate optimism in relation to the evolution of humanity towards a global society that is thoroughly outlined around very seductive principles. At this stage, what actually the knowledge-based society provides is a collection of paradoxes recorded especially in the cultural and educational plan. In most definitions and explanations that regard formal outlines, the predictable contents and developments of “the knowledge-based society” are consistently operated by two vector categories: technological and functional vectors. If we can only succeed in detaching ourselves from the ideality of an image that is consistently promoted in studies devoted to “the information and knowledge society”, we will have to acknowledge the factual image of younger studious generations, the first potential beneficiaries of these technological facilities, who do not make the most of it in the cultural and educational plan.
