REVIEW: The Lives of the Sociologist: Academician Mihail M. Cernea in Dialogue with Zoltán Rostás. Bucharest: Corint, 2024
Abstract: By applying the life-story interview method, Zoltán Rostás reconstructs not only the personal and professional life of the most internationally renowned Romanian sociologist, but also the socio-political context in which Mihail M. Cernea developed. This includes his relationship with the members of the Gusti School during the rehabilitation of sociology in the communist era of the 1960s, especially his collaboration with Henri H. Stahl, the way Cernea shaped his sociological vision on research and social action during his studies and rural research in communist Romania, and the sociological arguments for the rural development projects with which he convinced the World Bank, starting in 1974, to apply his social action model originating from the Gusti School.
Keywords: Sociological School of Bucharest, social history, Word Bank, research-action model, sociology of development.
