School and cultural landscape in the Romanian village. The museum-school from ASTRA Museum
ASTRA Museum assumed from the very beginning its role in perpetuating the traditions and crafts specific for the Romanian village. The results of the field researches, reflected mainly in the development of the tangible heritage collections, were moreover emphasized by a series of promotional and educational activities, targeting the public interested in ethnographic values. By transferring bits of Romanian genuine cultural landscape into Dumbrava Sibiului, ASTRA Museum created a new environment/setting, a cultural landscape that highlights at the same time the natural resources of the area. The (entire) history of the communities was symbolically transferred into the museum, in a synthesis village that turned into an authentic school teaching essential identity values. Transferring a century old school building completes the cultural landscape from Dumbrava Sibiului, thus contributing decisively to reshaping the cultural institution into a museum-school.
