Rezumat
The Museum of Urban Legends
Daniel Pișcu’s poetry already started its editorial life long before its author’s debut per se. Many of his colleagues at the Monday Literary Circle (among which Mircea Cărtărescu and Romulus Bucur’s names are the most prominent) quoted him in their books, thus contributing to the emergence of a legend of the generation. When Pișcu started to publish, he strived, during the period after the fall of the Romanian communism regime, to confirm the oral reputation that haloed him, by discussing and, in a subtle way, taking the stories of his first youth close to a museum type of narrative. The current essay follows and expands on the tactics through which this discreete author managed to remain deeply original for four decades, while staying loyal not necessarily to his own writing, but primarily to the public image that had been generated by his writing from the very beginning.
