The Metamodernism of Romanian Poetry in a Transnational Regime of Relevance (I)
Abstract: Despite the contemporary Romanian poetry being analyzed from a metamodernist perspective, the Romanian literary scene has been defined for four decades by postmodernism that apparently cannot be surpassed. Not only this, but the conclusions never made any clear correlations to world literature. By observing the metamodernist concepts brought forward by Timotheus Vermeulen and Robin van den Akker and through the comparisons with the current cultural movements in the Anglo-American poetry and Galin Tihanov’s concept of regime of relevance used from a transnational point of view, in this first installment of the research the focus is on the circulation of Romanian poetry within world literature and the demonstration of its adherence to metamodernism.
Keywords: metamodernism, postmodernism, contemporary Romanian poetry, regime of relevance, transnational, world literature
