Romanian women and the international feminine movement.
The participation in the national congresses and the antifascist movement
The present study outlines the history of the feminist movement in Romania, showing its rather surprisingly rich autochtonous tradition. The maturization of the feminist movement takes place in the interwar period, when the representatives of Romanian feminism started actively participating in the actions of the international feminist movement, debating and taking attitude mainly in what concerned women’s right to vote and their free access to all professions. The main figure observed here is princess Alexandrina Cantacuzino, one of the most active feminists in the European interwar period.
Keywords: modern Romanian history, interwar period, history of Romanian feminism, princess Alexandrina Cantacuzino, feminism and antifascism.
