L’Europe centrale commence à Strasbourg : ou comment la bibliographie nous parle aussi d’Histoire
From Königsberg to Strasbourg: how donations which built one library preserve the memory of another
Using the example of the catalogue list of a gift made by the former University Library of Königsberg (today Kaliningrad in Russia) to the Kaiserliche Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek zu Strassburg (which became after WW1 the National and University Library of Strasbourg) at the time of its foundation, this contribution aims to show how what was once only a donation (although a very big one) has become nowadays part of the cultural heritage of a disappeared world : Europe as it existed until 1945. The catalogue list becomes an important milestone of what could be the virtual reconstitution of a library in a city marked by important cultural transfers.
