Aesthetics and politics
The present study realizes a diachronical survey regarding the relation between literature (and art, in general) and the social-political environment. Starting with Plato and Aristotle, continuing with medieval scholars such as Saint Augustine and Bernard de Clairvaux and ending with Jacques Lacan and Theodor Adorno, the synopsis undertaken by the researcher converges towards the conclusion that any form of art is both ideological and transcending the ideology it embodies, being thus politically suspect.
Keywords: history of aesthetics, literature and politics, literature and ideology, Plato, Aristotle, Saint Augustine, Lacan, Adorno
