Ion Flueraş and the Affiliation of Socialist Movement from Romania at the III-rd Communist International
The III-rd International was founded in March 1919 and it was created as an International United Party, having its center in Moscow. The affiliation of some left parties was done only after the acceptance of the twenty one conditions that established the political, strategically and tactical orientation of the affiliated parties that, in this way, became section of Comintern. As a rule, the twenty one points established a total subordination of the affiliated parties towards the III-rd International. The Romanian socialists had some very vague and indirect information about the conditions of the affiliation. And thus, within the socialist movement from Romania it will bring forward strong discussions concerning the affiliation/no affiliation at the III-rd International. Ion Flueraş, the most important leader of the socialist movement from Transylvania, firmly declared himself against the transformation of the Socialist Party in Communist Party and its affiliation at the III-rd International. And thus, he became the target of the communist groups’ attacks. Flueraş unhesitatingly affirmed that the affiliation at the III-rd International would be a mistake. He showed a democratic attitude, declaring himself in favor of maintaining the traditional principles of the European social democracy. Flueraş considered the Communist International as a strange organism that was against both the interests of the Romanian state and the social democracy ideals.
