The Beginning of The Women Emancipation Movement in Transylvania and in other Romanian Territories (the nineteenth century)
The present study deals with the beginnig of the Women Emancipation Movement in Transylvania and in other Romanian territories (the nineteenth century) and with its crucial impact on The Feminist Movement in Romania’s history. There were numerous female personalities that coordinated the struggle for recognition and acquisition of women rights, at that time, such as: Ana Ipătescu, Maria Rosetti, Elena Cuza, Pelaghia Roşu, Sevastiţa Bălcescu, Zoe Golescu, Elena Ghica (Dora d`Istria), Sofia Cocea Chrisoscoleu, Constanţa Dunca Schiau, Maria Flechtenmacher, Adela Xenopol, Ella Negruzzi, Sofia Nădejde, Eugenia de Reuss Ianculescu, Nelly Cornea etc. They founded and coordinated various publications, associations and societies in order to awake from lethargy and activate a great mass of women, in urban areas. Throught their studies, speeches and diplomatic actions and activities, they have succeeded in convincing a great number of women about the importance of their social movement.They tried to define, establish and defend equal social, economic and political rights for women in Transylvania and in The Romanian Principalities.
