Mihail Fărcăşanu and the pedagogy of freedom
In this study, the authors surveys the life and works of Mihail Fărcăşanu, one of the leaders of Romania’s democratic emigration after 1945. Keeping distance from Gheorghe Tătărăscu’s autocratic liberalism, Fărcăşanu is, alongside Dinu Brătianu, a pillar of the liberal thought vindicating from the European aspirations of the generation from 1848. His exile thus echoes after one century the active emigration of I.C. Brătianu and C.A. Rosetti. A student of Carl Schmitt’s (his paper published in Romania will pe titled „Social Monarchy”), he will not be nevertheless a follower of Schmitt’s, as he will not accept and justify the usefulness of tyranny with judicial arguments. For the first time in Romania, the author of the study makes reference to some of Mihail Fărcăşanu’s yet unpublished works (namely of the study on Freedom and existence).
