Gabriella Zsigmond, Cartea ilustrată franceză din Biblioteca Brukenthal
Samuel von Brukenthal, who was the governor of Transylvania between 1777 – 1787, was also a great collector of many things, not only paintings, weapons or stones but also books. At his death in 1803 his collection of books was about 16000 . Nowadays the collection is about 300000. Among them there are a lot of illustrated ones. The present work deals with these kind of books with a stress on rococo books. There are presented some interesting and beautifully illustrated ones belonging to the 18th century; the most of them being printed in France. There are also brought a lot of information about the author, the edition and the artists that engraved the illustrations for each and every book.
We wanted to draw the attention upon the great and beautiful collection of illustrated books belonging to the Brukenthal Library in Sibiu.
