The beautiful poetess Sappho
The author has in attention the ideal of passion elaborated and exemplified by Sappho, the well-known ancient Greek poetess. It is a type of passion which is not interested anymore in the traditional position of the woman within the intricate social and cultural texture. While carefully analyzing the revolution brought by this redefinition of the female’s social and cultural role, the study proves that feminine homoeroticism in ancient Greece was not merely an erotical deviation, but implied a moral standard as ambitious as that developed by masculin homoeroticism.
