Venice, France, and the Ancient Book Shop, 15th – 19th Centuries

The study is interested in the historical importance of Venice in the development of the “book shop” in Europe, and mainly in France, from the 15th century onward. The city of Venice benefitted from the highly specific relations it had with the Byzantium, in the very context when the interest in the Greek Antiquity was progressively developping in the countries of Western Europe (Italy, France, Germanic countries, England). The phenomenon, which had a political dimension quite significant for the 16th century, is nevertheless more and more oriented towards bibliophily and the systems of biblioteconimical classification.
Keywords: history of European civilization, book civilization in the 15th-19th centuries, bibliophily, pressa md printing houses, book sellers
