Women in literary management before 1989 – working class heroes: navigating between professional and personal life
Abstract: Before 1989 the literary manager of a theatre, in Romania, was the „brain” of the institution, having a completely random working program which put him/her in the position of navigating between professional and personal life. As a woman, having a husband from outside the theatre world, the home duties and eventually children, the time management of everyday life became more important as ever. Without the help of tehnology – that eased our life on so many levels – every minute counted. In this article we will explore the braiding between personal and professional life in the case of women literary managers based on a documentation of more than four years, summing up more that forty confesions from professionals in the field and interviews with the targeted subjects. The article is structured in two parts, inside and outside the theatre life, trying to create this parallelism and to undersand how many hours a day had for a literary manager, woman, with a family, before 1989.
