Academic sociology in Iaşi from its origins to Petre Andrei
This article argues that Romanian sociology (and particularly that developed in Iaşi) reached an apogee during the first half of the 20th century through Petre Andrei’s works. The principle of antecedents is also true in the case of this sociologist because he was formed and stimulated, at least in the first part of his career, by Professor D. Gusti. Therefore, scientific knowledge does not come at once and entirely but the precursors of a field may be considered pioneers and innovators or providers of cultural capital who prepare and push forward the emergence of great creative personalities. To understand superficially or to neglect and disdain the activity and the contributions of predecessors in the field of sociology means to lose important guidelines and sources which would enrich our knowledge of the personalities who marked the groundwork of this field. In other words, in order to understand as well as possible the scientific and professional outputs of the most famous professor of sociology from Iaşi – Petre Andrei – we should know not only the superlatives of his work but also the things accomplished, in the same fields of analysis, by the most famous of his predecessors.
