The article focuses on the graphic work of Gheorge Pârcălăboiu. The ar tist displays a distinct profile in the contemporar y graphics of Sibiu and beyond. His works draw the attention with their strange surrealist universe, strained with an imagistic density which combines the mythical with the fabulous, and the nightmarish with the oneiric. The unmistakable unconventional of his vision has always a poetic significance or a dramatic load, subtly disguised in a baroque orchestration that blends the epic vision and the symbol, the imaginary and the mysterious. Gheorge Pârcălăboiu has consistently adhered to what one could call a non-utopic figurative surrealism, in which the the real and the imaginary coexist naturally as in a myth or in a fairytale.
