Romania’s history,withitsups and downs, always foundASTRA (Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People) at the forefront ofthe cultural actionsin order to stimulate thenationalliteratureand the culturalemancipation, the scientific and technicalprogress,promotingeverywhere the higher standards of livingof the masses:accessto knowledge, art, material wealth, tolerance towards others, etc.., issueshighlightedineach ofthe General Meetings ofthe Association. Despite the syncopes, the obstaclesof all kinds, historical, ideological or economic, ASTRAhasseenfulfilled their purposes,itsmost importantinstitutionsarestillpresent inthe country’scultural life, animated by theidealsthat led totheir birth, however,adaptedto the new global, european socio-politicalcontext. 150 yearssince the establishment ofthe Association, celebratingtheirprovidenţial achievements isa debt ofhonor.
