Christian Ethos and Dogma in East and West. Some Current Implications
A fundamental premise of this research is the belief that a certain set of doctrines regarding the teaching of faith also determines a certain ethos, a certain way of ecclesial experience of faith. The lex orandi – lex credendi distinction is part of this framework. At the same time, the relationship between dogmatics, liturgy and spirituality is threatened when heresies or schisms become manifest in all confessions. Thus, the present study aims at discussing the specificity and importance of the testimony of the Orthodox Church in the current socio-historical context, with emphasis on the differences in the history of Christianity between the Eastern and Western traditions, showing the current distinctions between the pastoral and the missionary implications.
Keywords: contemporary theology, Christian ethos, conversion, pastoral and missionary values
