From the history of balneology: Ferentz Nyulas about medical waters from Transylvania (1800)
Used since ancient times to treat various diseases, medical waters from Romania have been studied since the XVIIIth century by doctors, pharmacists and chemists among them standing out Ferentz Nyulas, Hungarian doctor and chemist. For 10 years he investigated the medical waters from Transylvania, also relying on his predecessors’ research and he wrote an important paper in Hungarian language, published in Cluj in 1800. Divided into three volumes, the work presents some physical and chemical analyzes, focused on Rodna’s springs, but also on diseases that could be treated with each type of water depending on the components. The paper became a medical guide because the author gives some advices on how to use the waters, the perfect period when people could use them, the right cure for every disease and the importance of having a balanced diet.
