How Far Did You Go, Mr. Lodge? The Writer and the Challenges of Catholicism in the 20th Century
In this study I present the religious relevance of the autobiography of David Lodge. Novelist, play writer and screenwriter, he was deeply influenced by the Catholic upbringing he was given, especially in his school years. This influence is perceptible in his writings, which have made him famous worldwide. They reflect themes that are specific to Catholicism, but also the changes that took place both within the Catholic Church after Vatican II and in the personal life of the British author. He did not hold himself back from criticizing the official position of the Church in which he had grown, especially in what regards family and sexuality related issues.
