Rezumat
Book catalogues from the holdings of Batthyaneum Library from Alba Iulia
This research is confined to spatial and temporal limits as the actual holdings of Batthyaneum Library comprise more book catalogues from throughout Europe. We will only refer to Italian Peninsula and the time span 1783-1785, period in which Imre Dániel, librarian of bishop Ignác Batthyány, was there serving the scientific needs of the bishop.
The Annexe from the final part of the research includes catalogues that were brought by Dániel from Italy and about which we find information either in the correspondence with the bishop, or the journal/Diarium which Dániel was obliged to write at the request of the high priest. Catalogues were printed in libraries or printing houses from Florence, Naples, Padova, Parma, Rome and Venice, localities that Dániel visited throughout his staying in Italy. They not only comprise papers in Latin, but also Italian, French, German, Spanish, English or even Dutch, also addressing the Anglo-Saxon area.
Advertising means, these catalogues managed to hold an essential role in spreading handwritten and printed book and thus, allowed purchasing of works offered within them by institutions and personalities of the moment. It is also the case of bishop Ignác Batthyány who enriched this way the library that nowadays bears his name.
