Rezumat
Romanian medical books from 1800 to 1830
Romanian medical books have been only randomly investigated until this moment by the Romanian historians. In the Western countries the scientific medicine started during the Renaissance period and during that time the medical experts were questioning the Galen theory for trying to offer a rational answer to lead to a better organized medical science into medical research areas.
The European medical historiography has improved considerably with new published studies in the XVII and XVIII century.
During the Enlightenment period the medical science in Romania was only empirical, and the population was treated by doctors and local surgeons without any medical studies, without hospitals and there were pharmacies only in the major cities. Also, there were no medical books or any medical culture. The transition process from empirical medicine to scientific medicine began in the late eighteenth century and it was completed in the first three decades of the next century. In this period some local charities had opened, local doctors were employed and the first medical schools were opened in Romania. Also, during this time were translated the first epidemiology books, sexual diseases books and generally had spread medical records related to the medicine as a science. The reason why so many studies were published was to make as popular as possible the new discovers from the medical field. Another reason was the attempting of raising the living standards of the population.
