The epical caravan of Ioan Groşan – Literature for philologists

Ioan Groşan is a main reprezentative of Romanian postmodernist fiction, whose works cover a variety of styles. The distinguishing features of his writings are the intertextual dialogue, the parodic re-creation of former literature, the intelligent play on words and the healthy Balcanic humour. The social system, the stupid ideologies, the clichées and prejudices are satirized in original manners, his characters fighting intelligently to become free, experiencing picaresque adventures and ending mostly like anti-heroes. There is also a psychological approach in some of his stories, the lyrical realism and the intertextual threads building an unique fictional world. The silent war between imagination and reality is won, by far, by the first one.
Keywords: postmodernism, irony, parody, intertext, humour, satire, psychological analysis, comic
