CAPIDAVA – a millenary fortified town of Dobrogea
The first excavations at Capidava started in 1924 under the guidance of professor Grigore Florescu. The archaeological excavations started at that time were stopped twice in the Communist period between 1949-1954 and between 1960-1965, but even so the archaeological researches continud until today. After Grigore Florescu the excavations have been continued by his son Radu until his premature disappearence in 2003. From 2004 until today the exacavations are led by Ioan Carol Opriş from the University of Bucharest.
