The dialectical fox

While in the case of other animals, with a weaker reputation, Dimitrie Cantemir dares to turn their traditional image into the negative reflection of his own interest, with the Fox he is obligged to obbey the typical representation and only to emphasize it. So, the Fox remains a very shy animal, enemy of the wolf and ready to do any compromise in order to get his own advantage. Yet, Cantemir’s character is one of the most interesting of the gallery, altogether with the well known Renard form the medieval French texts.
