Aspects regarding the Italian influence upon the Istro-Romanian dialect
Besides the Croatian influence that manifested (and still manifests itself) upon the Istro-Romanian dialect, the influence of the Italian language, both in its literary form, and especially in the form of the Venetian dialect, had a significant role, at least in what concerns the Istro-Romanian spoken south of Monte Maggiore. Being the result of the influences that are exercised during certain periods of time, and at the same time of an active and a long term plurilingualism, the Italian linguistic elements (borrowed directly or through Croatian) are well represented in the Istro-Romanian dialect, both quantitatively and thematically. However, in spite of their number, the changes that they have brought to Istro-Romanian’s morphological system are few.
