Foreign chrematonyms in Romania: a sign of globalisation?
Names of institutions (organisations, corporations, restaurants, pubs etc.) or things in the field of culture, commerce, politics or economics are closely related to the pragmatic dimensions of the message transmitted. These names are labelled as chrematonyms. Some of them are used in a culture, but related to another. They can influence people to react in a particular way, especially in the age of globalisation.
We will focus on foreign (mainly English) chrematonyms in Romania, analysing whether they represent a sign of globalisation. We will also analyse why foreign chrematonyms have gained an intensive and pervasive meaning in the Romanian society.
