Literature and Politics. Poems dedicated to Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej (1950-1953)
Taking into account the existence of an intimate relationship between ideology and culture in the Romanian communist regime, the main purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the poems composed, in the period 1950-1953, in order to praise Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej. The research aims to identify the name of the poets, the themes that have been explored and the moment chosen for publishing these writings. This type of approach aims to demonstrate that the lyrics composed in the epoch represented a genuine propagandistic means used in order to amplify the Romanian communist leader’s personality cult. Therefore, our research focuses on the most prominent literary personalities who composed encomiastic poems dedicated to Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej and interrogates the reasons behind their subordination in front of the ideological precepts.
