Byzantium’s Influence On Walachia’s And Moldavia’s Art In The 14Th

Century And The First Half of The 15Th Century

The study wants to present the influence of the Byzantine Empire in Walachia’s and Moldavia’s art in the 14th century and the first half of the 15th century. The construction of churches and monsteries was made after the Byzantine example. We recognize the best influence in the architecture of the local holy places. The icons from the Romanian principalities show us how well the Byzantine paintings were adopted and developed by the local artists. The Bulgarian and Serbian workers had a big impact in overtaking the Byzantine art to Walachia and Moldova. First the Romanian princes managed to get the Byzantine influence through the Balkan chain and the help of its labours. The spiritual and artistic integration of Moldavia and Walachia was made under the leaven of the Byzantine Empire. The first artistic creations from the two principalities were made thanks to the Byzantine example.
