Rezumat
The Latin School and the Translation of the Bible into Romanian
The Romanian people defines the phrase “Latin School” as referring to a current of pro-European ideas which activated during the 18th and the 19th centuries. It was found in all spheres of culture, Church, school and literary creation, with a particular emphasis on demonstrating the historical identity. The works registered within The Latin School were intended to demonstrate the Romanians’ Latin origin. During the aforementioned age the Latin origin meant an imagistic European advantage, by the regency of French and by the theory according to which the Latins originated in The Great Roman Empire of The Antiquity. The most important creation was the series of translations of The Bible into Romanian. The text of The Bible experienced several methods of relieving the closeness between Romanian and Latin. With successes and failures, which are highlighted in the article, the Romanian Latin period, also called The Transylvanian School, had an established text of The Bible in Romanian, as a final product. The main handicraftsman was Samuil Micu (1745-1806), such as Martin Luther was for the Germans, Ostrogska, the authors of the Bible in Russia, King James, for the English and Gáspár Károli, for the Hungarians.
